Rummy-O, another common name of Rummikub®, is a tile rummy game developed by Israeli games inventor Ephraim Hertzano in the early 1930s.

It is an exciting, fast-moving game which combines the element of luck with strategic planning to provide hours of fascinating play and holds the attention, stimulates the imagination, challenges the wits. It is a very good past-time game for the senior citizen because of its simple rules, yet requires certain amount of brain-cracking in order to win the game.

There are four different colors - black, red, orange, and blue, each numbered from one to thirteen. The numbers 1, 11, 12 and 13 replace the Ace, Jack, Queen & King respectively. There is also a joker which can be used to represent any tiles & color.

The Game:

There are many different ways of playing Rummy, it all depends on how you want it to be played.

At Radin Mas SCP, we have set our own game rules in order to simplify the procedues for the senior citizens, yet achieving the same degree of enjoyment & learning.

Instructions:

• Number of players required - 2 up to 4 players.
• All tiles will be laid face down and shuffled - Players, in anti-clockwise sequence, will first take 20 tiles & stack up on their respective racks.
• Players can then continue to pick from remaining tiles in sequence, each at a time, until rack is full or deem enough to game. Unused tiles will remain laid face down & placed in middle.
• Once ready, players can choose to display out some or all the Melds they can create from their own stack of tiles.

Two types of Melds:-

1. RUNS - min 3 tiles of the same color in numberical sequence

e.g. 8, 9, 10 or 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 11, 12, 13, 1

2. GROUPS - 3 or 4 tiles of the same number but of different colors

e.g. 7, 7, 7 or 1, 1, 1, 1

*A joker can be used in place of any tile in a Meld.

• In sequence, players will try to continue the Melds already displayed on the table with their remaining tiles.
• If there is nothing to be placed, the player will need to pick one tile from the unused tiles pool.
• Player who successfully uses up all the tiles on the rack wins the game!
